Surabaya (26/11) - November 28 is always celebrated as Indonesia Tree Planting Day (HMPI). This year, Surabaya Container Terminal (TPS), which is a subsidiary of Pelindo III, is commemorating it with a series of reforestation programs, starting from reforestation in the port area to greening in the neighborhood of RW 3 Krembangan Selatan.

Starting the activity together with the Tanjung Perak Port Authority Office, and several companies and agencies in the Tanjung Perak area in commemoration of Transportation Day in September, TPS continues to commit to carrying out reforestation activities to make the port environment greener and more beautiful.

Improvement and planting are carried out in the garden in front of the TPS Domestic Gate covering an area of 30 m2, as well as the park in front of the Tanjung Perak Exit Toll Road

In addition, the TPS together with residents of RW 3 Krembangan Selatan have planted 300 toga seeds in the village environment since the end of September 2020. These toga plants are in the form of red ginger, emprit ginger and galangal, which the crops will later be produced into herbal drinks. Currently, the residents of RW 3 Krembangan are pioneering Small and Medium Enterprises (UKM) which produce herbal drinks with the label "Wedang 9 (songo)", because there are 9 types of spices contained in it.

To support this effort, TPS volunteers are involved in the planting process and harvest the results and see first hand the production process of the spice drink. Although the sales of Wedhang Songo are only limited to “getok tular”, this product has spread to other cities and even abroad.

The head of RW 3 Krembangan Selatan, Santi, expressed his gratitude to TPS for their support by giving hundreds of toga seeds which the people really need. "Of course this program is very helpful for our small businesses, hopefully in the future the TPS cooperation can continue to be established, always success for TPS", said Santi.

TPS Corporate Communication, Retno Utami said that in the commemoration of Tree Planting Day, TPS wanted to remind the public of the importance of protecting and preserving the environment. Utilizing the available land for planting activities by planting plants in the surrounding environment, so that this small action contributes to helping preserve the earth.

"This activity is our effort to help preserve the environment, as well as a form of concern and support for community empowerment to get up and be productive during a pandemic," said Retno.
